Histological assessment remains the gold standard for diagnosing many pathological conditions and is widely used to evaluate changes in tissue structure, cellular composition and biomarker expression in basic, translational and clinical research. The Research Histology Core (RHC) provides high-quality, reliable histology services to support the research community at UIC and external investigators. Our facility offers a full range of routine histological services, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning of FFPE and frozen samples, antibody characterization and staining.

We provide a variety of standard and advanced staining techniques, such as immunohistochemistry, special stains, multiplex immunofluorescence (IF) and in situ hybridization (ISH/RNAscope). Our team works with a wide range of sample types, including preclinical animal models (mouse, rat, rabbit, pig, zebrafish), 3D cell culture models and human tissues. All services are core-assisted, and we also offer training on cryostat and microtome use. The RHC collaborates closely with the UIC Biorepository, Cardiovascular Research Core and the Spatial and Genome Technologies Core to deliver a complete experimental workflow from tissue procurement to image analysis. We strive to support researchers at every step from experimental planning to slide interpretation and are proud to serve as a collaborative resource for projects of all sizes. Meet the Research Resources Center

The Research Resources Center (RRC) is a division of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at the University of Illinois Chicago. The RRC offers research faculty, staff, and students a diverse inventory of high-end scientific equipment as well as a wide range of services offered by 18 core facilities staffed with highly skilled scientists. In addition, our staff trains the research faculty, staff and students to use the scientific equipment. Through the RRC, researchers also have access to statistical and computational support for data handling, data transfer, and interpretation of experimental results. The RRC Scientific Store supports research on campus by supplying over 1300 items while Scientific Instrument Shop can fabricate one-of-a-kind models and repair complex scientific equipment. The RRC also welcomes external users doing scientific research.
